Meet Our 2019 Grove Fest Chalk Artists

presented by Jim & Judy Hughes

Erika Thurkins is a Buffalo-based professional portraitist and muralist with a passion for chalking, which she has been doing for 5 years. Last year she channeled her focus into chalking full-time and expanded her participation in various festivals around the nation, garnering attention for her dynamic realistic representations. She is regularly commissioned by tourist venues and festivals along the East Coast, local pro sports teams (Buffalo Bills, Sabres), and local businesses and events in the WNY region. Erika is returning to Grove City for a second year at Grovefest, and was part of the original team for the inaugural mural installation at Antiques by the Yard back in 2007. She is overjoyed to have found her passion in the world of chalking and is grateful everyday to be a part of the best and most supportive artist community out there, traveling to do what she loves (with her husband and son as often as possible) and having the opportunity to spread color and beauty into the world wherever she can.

Chris Fry has been decorating pavement with his original chalk drawings of dragons, monsters, and other fun creatures for nearly 15 years.  He enjoys drawing freehand and as large and colorfully as possible.  When not bring imaginary things to life with chalk, he works in e-commerce and enjoys being a geek and a dad with his family in Gahanna, OH.  Check out his work at chalkgoblin.com and at facebook.com/chalkgoblin.

Meet Plain City Chalk Artist Chris Lemmon! Chris is a Columbus artist. He has always been into art and got into chalking a few years ago when he started doing the specials board at the bar he worked at. Chris has since moved onto doing some chalk work for local businesses, people, and festivals around Ohio. #pcchalkartfest

Jan Solari is an award-winning artist based in Columbus, Ohio. Though her formal training and employment have been mainly in graphic design, Jan decided years ago to devote at least as much time to “fine” arts. She is accomplished in many media, specializing in pastel portraits and painting large-scale, 3D murals. Street chalking has elements of both, so the appeal was natural. Throw in the chance to be outside, share the experience with other people, and travel a bit; and Jan is happy to literally get down and dirty.
